THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - They're a vital part of the health care field, but patients may take lab workers for granted because they don't often deal with them directly.
This is National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week.
It's purpose is to increase public understanding of and appreciation for clinical laboratory personnel.
Thomas University held an observance Thursday with a luncheon and information session.
"A lot of our community believes that the person that's actually drawing their blood is the person that's actually doing the testing. And we're here to basically dispel a lot of that information and produce for them a lot of quality information points," said Medical Lab Science Program Director Karen Burgess.
Instructors and students from Clinical Laboratory Technology programs at Southwest Georgia Technical College and Wiregrass Technical College were also guests at the luncheon.
