Next TU Talk to feature Simonds discussing new book | Events
THOMASVILLE, GA – The next Thomas University Talk session will feature TU Assistant English professor Sandra Simonds Monday, April 2 at the TU library.
Simonds will be discussing her new book, Mother was a Tragic Girl. Simonds is the author of “Warsaw Bikini” (Bloof Books, 2009), a finalist for the National Poetry Series.
Her work has been published in several journals, including Poetry, the American Poetry Review, The Believer, and The Colorado Review just to name a few.

Dr. Sandra Simonds, assistant professor of English at Thomas University, will be the featured speaker in the next installment of TU Talks at 2 p.m. Monday, April 2, in the Thomas University Library. Dr. Simonds will discuss her newest book, Mother Was a Tragic Girl (Cleveland State University Poetry Center, 2012).
Dr. Simonds is also the author of “Warsaw Bikini” (Bloof Books, 2009), which was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. Her work has been published in several journals, including Poetry, the American Poetry Review, The Believer, The Colorado Review, “FENCE, the Columbia Poetry Review,” “Barrow Street,” “New Orleans Review,” “Court Green” and “Lana Turner: A Journal of Poetry and Opinion.” Her creative nonfiction has been published in “Post Road” and other literary journals.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Dr. Simonds now lives in Tallahassee, Fla. She earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Creative Writing at UCLA and a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Montana, where she received a poetry fellowship. She also holds a doctorate in Literature with an emphasis in Creative Writing from Florida State University.
